Eldon Povatah

Eldon Povatah was born as the son of Donald Maho Povatah and Polly Sacavenka Shupla. He died on 12 January 2024, in Polacca, Apache, Arizona, United States.

Gordon DeVern Rasmussen peacefully departed this world on Monday, October 23, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas, after a prolonged battle with illness. He was born to DeVern James and Ila LaJune Chlarson Rasmussen and was the oldest of two siblings.

Gordon's formative years were spent in Honeyville, Utah, where he graduated from Box Elder High School. He will be forever remembered for his deep passion for trucks, cars, and his family. From a young age, he exhibited an unwavering fascination with trucks, a love that eventually evolved into a successful career. His exceptional driving skills were well-known, earning him recognition for safely covering over one million miles without a single accident. He lent his talents to various esteemed companies, including Parsons, Chlarson Brothers, Miller & Sons, Clawson Brothers, Consolidated Freight, Cal Western, and Ruan. Tragically, while transporting milk for Cal Western, he inadvertently ingested chemicals used for cleaning milk equipment, which left a permanent mark on his lungs, affecting his breathing for the remainder of his life.

Gordon also held an appreciation for automobiles, amassing a remarkable collection throughout his lifetime. It all began with a 1951 bronze metallic Ford two-door hardtop. He was an avid fan of NASCAR races, and a cherished highlight was the opportunity to drive on the actual NASCAR track in Las Vegas three different times.

More than his passion for trucks and cars, Gordon was known for his warm, friendly, and outgoing personality. He approached people with kindness and refrained from passing judgment on others. His greatest joy came from being in the company of his children and grandchildren, taking immense pride in their accomplishments.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission in Denmark as a young man.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Cora Lee Higginson Rasmussen, oldest sister, Sharon Coleman and third wife Ellen Stoddard Rasmussen. He is survived by his long-life friend and wife Jeanette Jensen; children, Scott Rasmussen and Trudi (Michael) Jensen, as well as two remaining siblings, Brent (Jane) Rasmussen and Zan (Jim) Nix Rasmussen and others who knew him as Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. His memory will forever shine in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 25th at the Honeyville Church in Honeyville, Utah from 11am to 1pm. All friends and family are invited.

Chad Sheffield

Charles “Chad” Sheffield, of Redmond, WA, passed away on June 24, 2020 in Kirkland, WA.  He was 78.

He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Joanne (Pegg); daughter Kristin Sheffield Sigel (Seth) of Woodinville, WA; son Kelly Sheffield (Lisa); 4 grandchildren (Kenzie and Tyler Sigel and Alex and Anna Sheffield) and long list of dear friends and extended family.

Chad was born on December 28, 1941 to Donald and Chloe Sheffield in Ogden, Utah. Chad was  raised in Brigham City, and attended Box Elder and Ben Lomond High School where he was an active member of his school’s swim, track, and football teams.  He later attended Weber State University before moving to Washington State where he would spend the great majority of his adult life.

Full of energy and with a vibrant personality, Chad leveraged his early years in construction to forge a long and successful sales career, highlighted by a near 16 year commitment to Issaquah’s BMC West. There, his unmatched level of customer service and ability to clearly paint a customized and translatable “word picture” made him a popular and much appreciated member of their team.   He truly enjoyed his time there, retiring in 2007.

Chad and Joanne were married in 1984, and their honeymoon lasted until the day he passed.  Their chemistry was unmistakable, and they both greatly enjoyed entertaining friends and family, gourmet cooking, gardening, traveling, and playing competitive and “high-stakes” games of Yahtzee.   Chad had many other interests,  including woodworking, rock collecting, and a love of cars.   It is safe to say that his beloved pick-up truck (easily recognized by its “CHAD” license plate) was among the cleanest and shiniest automobiles in Washington’s history.

A great storyteller, Chad was a lifelong learner and possessed a wide range of knowledge across many subjects.   He was an avid reader of fiction and history, and excelled at (and rarely missed) “Jeopardy!”, taking great pride in his frequent final jeopardy success.  He was quick to share a joke (loved hearing new ones) and laughed hard and often.

As fond and as proud as he was of Kristin and Kelly, his life changed forever with the birth of his grandchildren, starting with Kenzie in 2001.   Never has a grandfather taken greater joy (or given more love) than Chad gave to Kenzie, Alex, Tyler and Anna.  Through sunshine and rain, he was a permanent fixture at baseball, softball, soccer and basketball games.  He beamed with pride at every school show, debate, theater and dance performance.  He poured his love into woodworking projects for his grandchildren, building a magnificent playhouse for Kenzie and beautiful dollhouse for Anna; he built bookcases, doll cribs, treasured toy chests (with secret compartments) and wooden rifles — and anything else his grandchildren could dream up.   All were built with precision, with fine craftsmanship, and with love.

Chad will always be remembered for the affection he shared with his family and friends and for the countless holidays, birthdays, milestones and wonderful times when he opened his (and Joanne’s) home.

Chad is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Chloe Sheffield, and his brother, Don (Sandy) Sheffield, Jr.

His family hopes to celebrate his life at a later time and greatly appreciate all your kind words and thoughts.

Jack “H” Molgard

16 April 1942 – 12 July 2024 Jack “H” Molgard, 82, quickly and quietly passed away sitting in the shade of his cabin in Alpine, Wyoming while reading a book. He was born to Robert and Nellie Hunsaker Molgard on April 16, 1942 in Brigham City, Utah. He graduated from Box Elder High School and received a BS in Political Science at USU. He was a true-blooded Aggie, having football and basketball season tickets for 63 years. He received his Juris Doctor in 1969 from the University of Utah Law School and practiced law in Brigham City for 55 years. In 2009, he was proud to bring his nephew Malone into the Molgard Law Firm. They had an extra special bond. Jack never married, so his sister Kay Peterson and his brothers Kent, Max, their spouses and children were his family, along with cousins, aunts and uncles that he loved. The Molgards are an extremely tight-knit group, spending much of their lives together. Fifty-three years ago, Jack and his mother Nellie bought property in Alpine, Wyoming with the specific goal of making it a place for their family to gather and make memories. With the addition of a cabin built by Kent, a large garage to store the boats, four-wheelers and other toys, additional property and Kay’s cabin across the street, it has become a treasured gathering place where a constant stream of family come to play and make memories. Those memories have always included Uncle Jack, who spent every moment he could at the cabin, fishing, floating the river and even piloting his own plane there in the early years. His passions included history, reading and education. He listened daily to several hours of the news. He loved trying to stump relatives about history trivia, and they very seldom stumped him. In his sixties, he returned to Utah State and received an MS in History. He also had a lifetime passion for photography. His gruff exterior hid the biggest heart and we know that many were the recipient of his generosity and kindness, with the common directive to “just don’t tell anybody.” That kindness was turned around as he received a frightening prognosis two years ago that he wouldn’t live more than a few weeks. Undeterred, he rallied and surprised everyone as he lived his new normal. His siblings, nieces and nephews all combined forces and gave him a wonderful final two years of adventures and service when needed. We are so grateful for those additional two years. Special thanks to Dr. Lance Barker, nurse Amber Jones and IHC Hospice. He was also grateful to niece Barbie Molgard-Wright who supervised his medical needs, his sister Kay who brought his lunch to share during her daily visits and brother Max who was his entertainment director. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kent Molgard and brother-in-law Morrell Peterson and numerous canine companions. He is survived by his sister Kay Peterson, sister-in-law Pam (DeLoy) Bench, brother Max (Bette) Molgard, and numerous nieces and nephews. Per his request, there will be no funeral services. There will be a private memorial at a later date in Alpine, Wyoming.
